Macrophages and Microglia Cells Now in CAI Blood Cell Portfolio

SAN DIEGO, July 9, 2015 -- Rat Macrophages (RMcp) and Rat Microglia Cells (RMcg) have been added to the Primary Blood Cell lineup at Cell Applications, Inc.  The cells are available cryopreserved in an ampoule, or in Kits containing cells plus corresponding Culture Media Kit, with Basal Medium and Culture Supplement included.
Obtained from bone marrow, macrophages engulf and digest cellular debris and foreign pathogens, and play a central role in modulating the immune system. Macrophages have been widely used to research inflammation, wound healing, and metastasis.  Originating from hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow, Microglia are the resident macrophages in the central nervous system. They scavenge damaged cells and infectious agents, function in neurodevelopment, and maintain CNS plasticity and repair.  Conversely, studies also implicate the cells in neuro-inflammation, degeneration & pain, along with infection and aging.  The addition of both primary cell types will enhance research efforts toward normal physiology and diseases.
