β-Gal Assay Kits provide tools for convenient, sensitive, and accurate quantitation of β-Gal expression. The highly sensitive β-Galactosidase Assay Kit: Red (CPRG) Assay Kit, uses the red substrate chlorophenol red-β-D-galactopyranoside (CPRG) to determine β-gal expression levels, and the β-Galactosidase Assay Kit: Yellow (ONPG) Assay Kit, measures development of the bright yellow substrate o-nitrophenyl-β-D-galactopyranoside (ONPG). The ONPG kit provides a quick and sensitive method for quantifying β-galactosidase expression in cultured cells, while the CPRG kit is ideal for conditions in which β-galactosidse expression levels are low. Both β-Galactosidase Assay Kits are shipped frozen. The CPRG substrate solutions and β-galactosidase enzyme standard should be stored at -20ºC. All other components should be stored at 4ºC. Stable for 6 months when stored properly.
 
The X-Gal Staining Assay Kit is designed for sensitive and low-background in situ visualization of cells carrying the lacZ gene. The β-galactosidase enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of X-gal (5-bromo-3-indoyl-β-D- galactopyranoside), a β-galactoside.  Following fixation and incubation with the X-gal substrate, cells transfected with a β-galactosidase-expressing plasmid will appear blue.  These blue cells can be easily visualized by microscopy. Expression can be detected in cell culture dishes or in tissues in vivo. This simple and rapid assay is suitable for expression studies in cultured cells and tissues transfected in vivo. The X-gal Staining Assay Kit provides all the reagents necessary for performing 50 assays in 60 mm dishes.
