Human Placental Epithelial Cells

(HPlEpC)

Human Placental Epithelial Cells ( HPlEpC ) are isolated from normal human amnion. They are cryopreserved at the end of primary culture. These epithelial cells proliferate well when they are thawed and plated from cryopreservation, but they do not plate and proliferate after trypsinization.

HPlEpC has been used to study the secretion of activin A¹, the neural formation during early fetal development², and the antimicrobial and endotoxin-neutralizing barrier effect of Histones H2A and H2B against microorganism³. Prostaglandin E2 induces high level of amniotic epithelial cell death via necrosis rather than apoptosis⁴. Matrix metalloproteinases–9 (MMP-9) localized mainly in amnion epithelia. An increase in MMP-9 expression may contribute to degradation of extracellular matrix in fetal membrane and placenta, thereby facilitate fetal membrane rupture and placental detachment⁵.

Typical epithelial cell morphology.

Each lot tested negative for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C and negative for mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, fungi.
