Human Cardiac Fibroblasts (HCF)
Human Cardiac Fibroblasts (HCF) are derived from normal human heart tissue. They are cryopreserved at first passage and can be cultured and propagated at least 8 population doublings. HCF has been used to study the effects of TNF-alpha and angiotensin (Ang) II levels on fibroblast function¹. Expression of MyoD can induce myogenesis of cardiac fibroblasts². Cardiac fibroblasts involved in aortic regurgitation synthesize more Fibronectin³. Estradiol inhibits cardiac fibroblast growth through conversion to methoxyestradiols, which may protect against remodeling involved in heart disease⁴. TGF-beta stimulates differentiation of fibroblasts to myofibroblasts, which increases collagen production⁵. Serum depletion of fibroblasts simulates one of the components of ischemia⁶.
