Human Chondrocytes

(HC)

Human Chondrocytes (HC) are derived from normal human articular cartilage. They are cryopreserved at the second passage and can be cultured and propagated at least 10 population doublings. Chondrocytes produce and maintain the extracellular matrix of cartilage.¹Chondrocytes grow in serial monolayer culture lose their phenotypic markers and became de-differentiated². This de-differentiation stage can be reversed by culturing them in semi-solid gel^3,4. HC has served as useful model for studying chondrocyte differentiation and the effects of cytokines and growth factors on the suppression and maintenance of differentiated cartilage phenotype⁵.

Each lot tested negative for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C and negative for mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, fungi.
